In addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, the world is also facing a pandemic of obesity, which has been taking more lives as compared to the coronavirus.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over four million people are dying annually as result of being overweight or obese, top gastroenterologists said on Sunday.
“Covid-19 and obesity are two pandemics being faced by the world simultaneously, and, unfortunately, obesity is killing more people in the world as compared to the viral infectious disease,” said Prof Wasim Jafri in his state-of-the-art lecture on “Covid-19 GI and Liver Manifestation” at the 3rd Annual Virtual Conference of Pak GI and Liver Disease Society (PGLDS).
SHC tells police to explain their efforts for preventing mugging incidents in city

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed the Sharifabad police to submit a report as to what efforts were being made to prevent mobile snatching incidents during the traffic jams and how the traffic was managed during the Pakistan Super League matches in the city.
The direction came on a contempt-of-court application of Aziz Fatima who submitted that despite the undertaking before the court that University Road from the central prison to Nipa and Sir Shah Suleman Road from New Town to Dalmia shall not be closed during the PSL matches, the same roads had been again blocked by the alleged contemnors by putting containers.

Notices issued over blocking of roads during PSL matches

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notices to the home department’s focal person and the traffic police SP on a contempt application filed against them for violating the undertaking before court with regard to not blocking roads around the National Stadium during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket tournament matches.
Aziz Fatima, media coordinator of the Pasban Democratic Party, said in the contempt-of-court application that despite the undertaking before the court that the road from the Central Jail Karachi to Nipa and Sir Shah Muhammad Suleman Road from New Town to Dalmia (Aga Khan University Hospital Road) will not be blocked during PSL matches, they had been blocked again by the alleged contemnors with containers and other obstructions.
