A Nanomechanical Approach for Stretching Microfabricated Diamonds

A Nanomechanical Approach for Stretching Microfabricated Diamonds Written by AZoNanoJan 4 2021 Diamond is the hardest material in nature. But out of many expectations, it also has great potential as an excellent electronic material. A joint research team led by City University of Hong Kong (CityU) has demonstrated for the first time the large, uniform tensile elastic straining of microfabricated diamond arrays through the nanomechanical approach. Their findings have shown the potential of strained diamonds as prime candidates for advanced functional devices in microelectronics, photonics, and quantum information technologies. The research was co-led by Dr Lu Yang, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MNE) at CityU and researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT).

5 winners and 2 losers from the Georgia Senate elections

5 winners and 2 losers from the Georgia Senate elections Vox.com 1/6/2021 Dylan Matthews, Ella Nilsen, Zack Beauchamp, Andrew Prokop, Li Zhou, and Ian Millhiser © Carolyn Kaster/AP Democrats Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff have delivered Senate majority to President-Elect Joe Biden. It’s finally over: Five full days after the actual year 2020 ended, the 2020 elections have ended too. And they ended with a bang early Wednesday morning, a slim but decisive victory by Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, who in one fell swoop turned both of Georgia’s US Senate seats Democratic. In doing so, they ensured that the party will have a razor-thin 50-50 Senate majority once Vice President Kamala Harris takes office on January 20.

Georgia's election results make bigger stimulus checks more likely

Tasos Katopodis/Getty Images Thanks to Georgia, don’t give up hope on a $2,000 stimulus check just yet. Democrats Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff defeated Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in Georgia’s US Senate runoff elections on Tuesday, giving Democrats a slim margin in the Senate. Democratic control of the White House, House of Representatives, and Senate has big policy implications in terms of what can be accomplished including more stimulus to boost the economy as the Covid-19 pandemic continues. In other words, more help could be on the way. The margin in the Senate is going to be a tight one 50-50, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris casting the deciding vote to get a majority. But it also means that President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda has a much greater chance of being enacted, and that at least parts of
