Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB) recently announced the 14 Latinx films and digital media projects that it will fund this year. LPB executive director Sandie Viquez Pedlow says what unites all the works is the concept of “home.”
“Whether it’s the immigrant’s complex connection to their native land or the struggle of a community fighting to stand its ground in the midst of change, this year’s projects tell stories that explore complex and timely issues through a moving, personal lens,” Pedlow says.
Orange County salons and restaurants are wasting no time reopening after state officials Monday lifted stay-at-home orders in response to declining coronavirus infections and COVID-19 hospitalizations.
My name is
John Canalis, an assistant managing editor with the Los Angeles Times.
Perhaps you were taken by surprise, as I was, to see legal (yes, I am aware of the many scofflaws) patio dining return this week. Or that barber shops and salon chairs had clients gracing them once again. That maximum occupancy went up a bit in shops and stores, easing those long waits in line.
We all heard this was coming when Gov. Gavin Newsom lifted the restrictive stay-at-home orders on Monday. But many of us had grown so accustomed to seeing curtailed businesses that we did a double-take when, lo and behold, things returned to the COVID-era normal in place before Thanksgiving.

Multiple homes have been evacuated in Weslaco as firefighters continue to battle a grass and brush fire, city spokesperson Cristina Garcia confirmed Monday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in Las Brisas subdivision near Mac Drive at about 2:45 p.m.
Garcia says heavy gusts have caused firefighters to close the roads and evacuate 15 homes in the area.
One home has been affected by the fire, Garcia said.
No injuries have been reported.
Nearby agencies are assisting as the Weslaco Fire Department continues to investigate.
