Please give us a short description of your background and experience. My wife, Mary, and I have lived in Grand Junction for 24 years. We have three grown children and six delightful grandchildren. I am a retired CPA and have worked in the public and governmental sectors of our economy. I have worked with and advised scores of small businesses and have a thorough understanding of the local government s financial systems. I am a fiscal conservative who takes very seriously the fact that money collected from taxpayers needs to be allocated to the most important needs of our community. I have invested a great deal of time as a citizen to understand the critical issues and will be able to hit the ground running if elected.

I am John Merrick “Rick” Taggart, I moved to Grand Junction in the early 80’s to lead and manage Marmot Mountain Works, a young dynamic outdoor company, as its CEO, Chairman and Co-Owner. After selling the business in the late 80’s, I went on to lead the International business unit of The Timberland Company as their Senior Vice President and then on to be the CEO of Swiss Army Brands for 15 years until 2010. Since the summer of 2010, I have worked at Colorado Mesa University as an instructor of Business Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Management, Marketing Principles, Consumer Behavior, and International Business.

Please give us a short description of your background and experience. I have worked in the construction industry for over 30 years building partnerships within our community. I have worked on many projects such as the new CMU Maverick Hotel and the Two Rivers Convention Center renovation. I have had the pleasure to work alongside many of our local elected officials on issues, such as the Back the Badge Campaign in 2019, and worked with our community on the current COVID 19 issues finding a way to safely reopen our community. Briefly explain why you are running for City Council. I am running for City Council because I listen to our community. Many people have asked me to use my leadership skills to help us through these trying times. I have the ability to bring people together and lead us into a bright and vibrant future.

Please give us a short description of your background and experience. My grandfather moved to Mesa County 77 years ago, a civil engineer who built bridges on the Grand Mesa. My father was born at St Mary’s Hospital, the same hospital as my children, and in the same hospital system I’ve worked for 20 years. I have a PhD in Family Therapy from Brigham Young University and am the Director of Behavioral Medicine at the St Mary’s Family Medicine Residency ( http://bit.ly/reitzfaculty ). In this role, I train the next generation of family physicians, family therapists, and social workers for service in the primary care clinics of Western Colorado.
