Residents can file applications for building permits, request graffiti removal, report fallen or overgrown trees for clean up and watch City Council meetings live. With a website redesign, the City will develop a site that prioritizes the user experience and makes accessing City services online as simple as possible. The new site will take a mobile-first approach to make it as easy as possible to browse from a mobile device.

LAFD Encourages You to have a Safe 4th of July Holiday

LAFD Encourages You to have a Safe 4th of July Holiday Details All fireworks, even the so-called safe and sane variety are  illegal in the City of Los Angeles.  It may be tempting to acquire personal fireworks for your 4th of July celebration, but this year we ask you to Think About Your Neighbor. Personal fireworks are known to negatively affect children, pets, and combat veterans. In addition, the wildfire danger is ever present. We encourage all to seek public fireworks shows, which will be more readily available than they were last year. However, those who use, possess, or transport any type of firework may be subject to criminal prosecution - or worse yet, painful and debilitating injury. Surrounding July 4th last year, LAFD responded to an additional 429 emergency incidents than the daily average. We implore you to celebrate safely and enjoy fireworks exclusively at public shows.

Boy bitten by shark while at Boy Scouts camp near Catalina Island

Thomas De Wever/iStock (LOS ANGELES) A boy is undergoing surgery after suffering a shark bite at a Boy Scouts camp at Catalina Island in Southern California, officials said. The Boy Scouts said the camper was canoeing when he suffered a non-life-threatening bite Wednesday morning. The Los Angeles County Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division said the victim and his father were kayaking when their boat was bumped by what’s believed to be a shark. He reached into the water and was bitten on the hand, the department said. The victim was transported by air to a hospital to undergo surgery, the fire department said.
