(WECT) - Three schools in Wilmington were honored by the U.S. Department of Education on Thursday. According to a press release, D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy and Wrightsville Beach Elementary School were both named Green Ribbon Schools while UNC-Wilmington was recognized as a Postsecondary Sustainability Awardee. These honors were part of the Education Department’s Green Ribbon Schools program, which recognizes schools, districts, and colleges/universities for “their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.”
