BY MAIRE O’NEILL Two Los Alamos County Councilors, David Reagor and Sean Williams, have been very open in their opposition to a purchase agreement approved by Los Alamos County Council in December before the two new councilors took their seats. The purchase agreement is for two properties on Central Avenue – the CB Fox building and the Reel Deal Theater – for $4 million and the County is close to the end of a 90 day due diligence period as part of the agreement. Councilor Reagor asked during a presentation by staff for a recent Council meeting, what the County adds to this whole thing.

Secretary Kinney Addresses NMED Lawsuit On LANL Cleanup During Los Alamos Community Meeting Thursday

BY MAIRE O’NEILL New Mexico Environment Department Sec. James Kenney told participants in a virtual Los Alamos community engagement meeting Thursday evening that NMED’s goal is cleanup, that its goal is never to penalize, but that there has to be consequences when people don’t follow the rules. Sec. Kenney was referring to a lawsuit against the Department of Energy filed by NMED in District Court late Wednesday and announced early Thursday initiating the termination of the 2016 Consent Order as well as holding the Department of Energy accountable to cleaning legacy waste at Los Alamos National Laboratory per the existing planning cycle and “seeking mediation through the District Court for our new version of the Consent Order”.

Resolution Calling On Governor To End School, Business Lockdowns Fails To Pass Los Alamos County Council kirsten@ladailypost.com The resolution calling on the Governor and state health officials to end the school and business lockdown failed to pass during Tuesday night’s Los Alamos County Council meeting. Councilor David Reagor introduced the resolution. The motion to pass the resolution failed to pass 1-6 with Reagor casting the sole vote in favor of it. According to the resolution, the lockdown should end to ensure the “social and mental health of the Los Alamos community”. Furthermore, Reagor argued in his resolution that the public health orders and school closures “cause significant harm to low-income students with poor internet service and have shown in other states to have little benefit”.
