Lockington and Reddy join forces again to help those affected by TC Yasa Lockington and Reddy join forces again to help those affected by TC Yasa [Image: Supplied] Lautoka businessman, Narayan Reddy and resident Allen Lockington have come together once again to help people affected by TC Yasa and they have sent the first phase of relief supplies for 200 families to Vanua Levu yesterday. They have also been assisting people affected by COVID-19. Reddy says these relief items include 8 to 10 tonnes of clothing which has been donated by Chand’s Clothing in Lautoka, food supplies, water and dry goods which has been donated by their friends from Fiji and overseas.

Initial assessments confirm more than 300 houses damaged after TC Yasa Initial assessments confirm more than 300 houses damaged after TC Yasa Kia Island, Macuata.[Image: Keira Rose] Preliminary impact damage assessments from the divisions have identified damage sustained to more than 300 houses in the Northern and Eastern Divisions after Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa. The teams from the divisions were deployed to affected communities and villages last week following the aftermath of TC Yasa. Government officials from Viti Levu have also been deployed as part of the 120 personnel deployment to Vanua Levu to assist in conducting the assessments in the North. The team is in Vanua Levu and will begin with assessments and distribution of emergency food packs and non-food items today.

The “Kava Parliament” members from Lautoka, as they are preferred to be known, have sent a truck full of supplies to the Northern Division today to help those affected by Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa. Team member Narayan Reddy told the Fiji Times Online that the consignment included clothes and food supplies. He added it will be distributed by two of their team members in the Northern Division. The team which also has Allen Lockington and Nigel Fiu will be sending another truck to the Lau Group early next month.

Tremendous support shown for the Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset’s disaster relief initiative for the North Sunday 20/12/2020 The Rotary Club of Peninsula Sunset collected $800 cash and 35 bags of relief items during their disaster relief initiative collection at the ROC Market in Suva, and donations continue to pour in. Community Service Director Prashant Anuraag says the support from the people of Fiji towards the initiative has been tremendous and they are thankful that people have shown their support to those who have been affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

On 18 December, its center was located approximately 10 km south-west of Lakemba Island (Lau Group). According to initial reports, at least two people died and 23,479 people sought shelter in 457 evacuation centres across Fiji. Extensive damage due to flooding, strong wind, storm surge and landslides has been reported in Vanua Levu and Viti Levu.
