VIENTIANE, May 11 (Xinhua) There have been 203,045 tests for the COVID-19 infection conducted in Laos since January 2020, said a report released Tuesday by the Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Health Ministry.
Of the tested people in the Southeast Asian country, 1,362 were found COVID-19 positive, said the report.
Laos has been carrying out tests on a daily basis to detect the COVID-19 infections.
So far in Laos, 297 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the pandemic and been discharged from hospitals, the report said.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Lao government has continued to implement preventive measures and carefully monitored arrivals in the country.
VIENTIANE, May 11 (Vientiane Times/ANN): The National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control is advising people not to become complacent and to fully comply with government guidelines to stop the spread of the virus, after 237 people were discharged from hospital.
The discharged patients had been under observation after contracting the virus but have all now twice tested negative.
Hospitals are allowing recovered Covid-19 patients to return home on condition that they self-quarantine and follow doctors’ advice about medication, rest and diet while minimising contact with family members.
Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control, under the Ministry of Health, Dr Rattanaxay Phetsouvanh, gave an update on the Covid-19 outbreak at a press conference on Monday, urging everyone to continue to follow the lockdown rules.
VIENTIANE, April 28 (Xinhua): The third batch of China-donated Covid-19 vaccines has arrived in and been handed over to Laos.
The Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines were handed over by Chinese Ambassador to Laos Jiang Zaidong in the Lao Health Ministry.
The Chinese ambassador said that the China-Laos anti-epidemic cooperation has become an important carrier for building a community with a shared future. We will not forget that when China was struggling to fight the epidemic, the Lao side donated cash and batches of anti-epidemic materials to China. Since the outbreak of the epidemic in Laos, China has dispatched two expert teams, provided a large amount of supplies, helped build nucleic acid testing laboratories, and donated three batches of vaccines, the ambassador said.
AUTHORITIES are advising foreign airlines to provide passengers flying to Laos with “out-smart” bracelets that monitor their temperature, as part of continuing efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Monday instructed the Lao Public Works and Transport Ministry to notify foreign airlines of this requirement.
According to local daily Vientiane Times on Tuesday, foreign airlines are required to inform passengers before they board a flight that they may be refused permission to enter Laos if they do not wear an “out-smart” bracelet.
The committee is also requiring all foreign citizens entering Laos to purchase Covid-19 insurance through the Lao Health Ministry.
