VIENTIANE, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) The Lao government has urged authorities and the public to remain vigilant and continue to implement preventive measures for the COVID-19 risk.
International checkpoints remain closed for ordinary travel, except essential crossings for Lao and foreign nationals who are permitted by the task force committee, Lao Minister of Health Bounkong Syhavong told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday.
Traditional and local border checkpoints are also closed, except those permitted by the Lao government for goods transport.
International charter flights from countries that are experiencing an outbreak must be suspended.

3:10 PM MYT VIENTIANE, Dec 20 (Xinhua): A total of 6,209 crimes were recorded in Laos in 2020, with drug trafficking being the most frequently occurring crime.
According to local daily
Vientiane Times, a crime report was presented at a meeting in Lao capital Vientiane on Tuesday to summarize security operations in 2020, attended by Lao Minister of Public Security Vilay Lakhamfong and other officials.
The ministry s Head of Office, Somvan Sailongpha, said that of the 6,209 crimes recorded, illegal drug trading was the most common with 3,519 offences being recorded. In addition, 311 crimes were finance-related, while 153 involved the theft and other crime cases.
Police were able to solve 5,191 crimes and arrested 7,674 people, of whom 999 were women, as well as 117 foreigners including 14 women. Police arrested 4,984 people on drugs charges.
