EAST HARTFORD, Conn. – The No. 4 seeded Virginia Cavaliers (14-4) captured the program’s seventh NCAA title with a 17-16 triumph over No. 3 seeded Maryland (15-1), becoming the first team in program history to win back-to-back titles, on Monday afternoon at Rentschler Field.
UVA has won six titles since 1999 and now has won at least one championship in four-straight decades. Virginia is also the first NCAA DI men’s lacrosse program to win six-straight games in the NCAA finals (1999, 2003, 2006, 2011, 2019 and 2021). The national title is the program’s ninth overall, which includes USILA titles in 1952 and 1970 before the NCAA started a tournament.
