U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than $100,000 in marijuana near El Cenizo, authorities said.
On Monday afternoon, a Laredo Sector camera operator spotted several people carrying large bundles of narcotics across the Rio Grande near El Cenizo, Texas.
Laredo South agents responded to the incident as the suspected smugglers were swimming across the river. Agents arrived at the area and found two large bundles of marijuana near the riverbanks.
The marijuana weighed 142 pounds and had an estimated street value of $113,600.

Border Patrol Agents Arrest Three Dangerous Criminals in One Day
LAREDO, TX – Border Patrol agents apprehended a convicted sex offender, a man convicted of homicide, and an aggravated felon in three separate events in less than 24 hours.
The first incident occurred during the early morning of April 21, when agents apprehended a group of undocumented migrants on a ranch southwest of Freer, Texas. One of the individuals was identified as Jasiel Olvera-Olguin, a 34-year-old Mexican national. Records checks revealed that Jasiel Olvera-Olguin had been convicted in 2004 for Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree and Burglary 3rd Degree in Des Moines, Iowa. Olvera-Olguin is being held by the U.S. Border Patrol pending criminal prosecution for his immigration violations. He will be remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.
U.S. Soldier Saves Abandoned Immigrant Child from Drowning in Rio Grande

A U.S. soldier helped rescue a young girl who was struggling with the current in the Rio Grande River on Monday after suspected human smugglers left her on the U.S. side of the waterway.
The soldier, whom authorities have not yet publicly identified, was among a group from U.S. Army North, U.S. Northern Command sent to assist Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents in Texas amid the recent influx of migrants attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
Reports from the rescue site said the girl was a little dazed and shook up after she was pulled from the water, according to Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak.

United States Border Patrol apprehended nearly 150 illegal immigrants who were hiding inside a tractor-trailer.
Agents in the Laredo Sector of the border found 149 illegal immigrants in the back of a tractor-trailer during a checkpoint stop on Interstate Highway 35 on April 16, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced on Monday.
None of the people in the sealed area of the vehicle were wearing personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the agency said.
There was an “increase in COVID-19 infections among details,” CBP noted, warning about “the transporting of large groups of people without PPE in close dangerous quarters.” The agency did not provide details about the number of previously reported cases or what the rise has been.
