WOODBRIDGE, VA More than 40 people gathered in Woodbridge on Saturday to protest the hiring of new Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham. Protesters cited Newsham s record as the chief of police in Washington, D.C., and a lack of community input in his hiring as the cause of their unhappiness.
Newsham was hired by the Prince William County Board of Supervisors last year in a 7-1 vote. Margaret Franklin, Woodbridge s representative on the board, was the only supervisor to vote against Newsham s hiring. Newsham is scheduled to start as Prince William County s police chief on Monday, Feb. 1.

Michigan breweries were confronted with some of their biggest challenges in 2020. What can we expect in the craft brewing world here in the Mitten as move forward? Will adversity spark creativity? Are big changes coming to Michigan beer? Inquiring minds want to know.
“By and large, the craft beer world is a progressive world,” said David Ringler from Cedar Springs Brewing Company, when asked about trends in beer for 2021.
We reached out to a few experts in the beer industry to get their take on what might be coming in 2021. We found that while there some things they saw happening across the board, there are also a few interesting outliers that might prove to be bigger players in years to come.
Finally, A U.P. Beer Is On Its Way To Kalamazoo
Hold my beer. We have a beer mystery to solve. A really good beer mystery. The suspect brewery has an excellent line of tempting beverages that include a fresh, flavorful IPA, a crisp crushable light lager, a judiciously dry-hopped beverage blended with Michigan pride and Michigan agriculture and an adaptable all-weather dark beer. There s more, but I m too thirsty now to go on.
For the longest time, Upper Hand Beer was only available in the U.P. and it took a long road trip or bribing your buddy to grab you a couple of cases while he was up there to get your hands on this delectable treat. Then a small hail Mary was thrown to us flat-landers.The company began delivering south of the bridge late last year but availability was limited to only northern Michigan. Close, but no cigar.
