If you are driving along N. Kansas Avenue through the NOTO Arts and Entertainment District, you might notice the banners adorning the poles along the streets. There are banners that welcome visitors to the district and some that display art created by local artists.
But eight new banners that were placed in January are unique to the district, and maybe unlike any banner that people have seen before.
The banners are made of aluminum items donated by the community. The district s visitors will be able to identify cupcake pans, piping and machinery pieces in the banners.
The sculptural banners were created by Michael Bradley and Larry Peters, two longtime Topeka artists who work in ceramics and mixed media. Bradley rents studio space at Studio 831, and Peters, who is married to Barbara Waterman-Peters, occasionally uses the space to show his work.
