As the coronavirus spreads like wildfire throughout the United States and along the West Coast, Washington state’s Democratic Governor Jay Inslee announced last Wednesday, “It’s time to begin getting kids back into classrooms.”
The announcement follows the reopening of schools in New York City, which has spearheaded the broader trend of cities and states controlled by the Democratic Party reopening schools as quickly as possible. In addition to Washington state, last week saw Chicago and Washington, DC, announce plans to reopen schools in January. Similar plans were implemented across the state of Oregon last month, while officials in Oakland, California, are also moving to reopen schools in January.

Reykdal says since children are less likely to get coronavirus or shed the virus, they are generally less of a risk.
But he says if kids do get the virus, they can spread it just like adults.
The superintendent says strict safety guidelines are the key to keeping school environments as safe as possible.
Reykdal says younger children are proving more likely to follow coronavirus rules, which is one of the reasons they should come back first. Those rules include wearing masks at all times, maintaining six feet of physical distance whenever possible, improved ventilation, and increased cleaning.

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. - With the state now urging teachers to get back into the classroom sooner than later, Washington educators have mixed reactions. It was a huge surprise we were not expecting that, teacher Tani Lindquist said.
Teachers along with the Washington Education Association say they were caught off guard with Governor Inslee’s announcement on Wednesday changing the health metrics.
Metrics, that up until now, that has been one of the strictest in the country for reopening schools.
