Comparing COVID rates
Red or blue counties which are getting hit worse by the pandemic in upper Florida? To find out, I checked the New York Times’ online COVID-19 database. The selected statistic is the ”Daily Average of New Cases per 100,000” residents over the last seven days.
Florida’s highest rate is found in Miami-Dade, No. 1 on the list. The next six are red counties north and west of Alachua: Lafayette, Holmes, Okaloosa, Bay, Liberty and Calhoun. Counties eight to 10 are in other directions, but six of the next nine also are red and west of us: Santa Rosa, Gulf, Wakulla, Hamilton, Madison and Walton at No. 19. Bright blue Alachua is 45th out of 67 counties.
