A new program is making it easier for homebound residents of Jasper and Hampton counties to receive their COVID-19 vaccinations when they are eligible.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is partnering with Agape Care Group on the pilot program. Hampton and Jasper counties were selected for the pilot because they have a relatively high rate of homebound and hospice patients in rural areas, DHEC said. This presents some logistical challenges that, once overcome, will be used as a model for efficiently expanding this service to all counties without limitations to rural communities.

Ferguson, pastor of Lovely Hill and Zion Oak Grove Baptist churches in Ridgeland, and his wife Lorine received their first shots Friday morning at the Jasper County Health Department as part of an initiative to promote local vaccinations. I think it s important for leadership. Pastors need to step up and do what s necessary to keep our families and our communities safe, he said. It should be done on the largest scale possible so we can get back to our church services as we are accustomed to.
