WCCB Charlotte s CW February 22, 2021 CHARLOTTE, NC – A new prototype to tackle the affordable housing crisis is set to debut just North of Uptown Charlotte. “I’m just lost for words. The dream has come true to help as many people as we can,” said Rick Gilbert, the founder, and CEO of Home Again Foundation. They’ve privately built 8 cottages that will house about 18 people. “We’re very excited. We’ll be moving in residents this weekend,” said Gilbert. Full kitchens, energy-efficient construction, and utilities are included in the rent. “We want to end homelessness,” said Gilbert. The eight units off Cochran Drive are the prototype. The goal is to eventually purchase 28 acres across the street to build an additional 210 units, complete with a child care center and other wrap-around services.
