Laura earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Texas Christian University.

.- In 1951, the young American photographer Ruth Orkin was sent from New York to Israel, on assignment for LIFE magazine. From there she travelled to Italy, where she met Ninalee Craig, known at the time as Jinx Allen, a fellow American who was also travelling alone. It was a photograph of Jinx, being starred at as she passed through a group of men, which was to become Orkins most recognizable image, An American Girl in Italy. Orkin included the photograph as part of a series, later published in Cosmopolitan magazine, entitled Dont be Afraid to Travel Alone.

Photographer Ruth Orkin, known for her intimate portraits in New York and abroad, would have turned 100 in September. To celebrate her centennial, Bonhams is presenting a diverse collection of her work, including some images that have never been seen before, in an online auction beginning Jan. 22 and culminating in a live event on Feb. 2.
“We’re kicking off the celebrations with this sale,” says Laura Paterson, Bonhams Head of Photographs. “We re representing her from the earliest pictures right through to the end of her career.”
In addition, the sale will have a range of the kind of prints in the sale, starting with “rare and important vintage prints,” which were made around the time the photograph was taken,
