Social mobility and our children’s fading prospects, British author Duncan Exley explores the impact of social mobility on major corporations and found it narrowed their ability to source the best talent. Exley argues that “boardroom bubbles” are partly the result of companies recruiting senior managers from an international elite rather than developing the talent of existing employees with hands-on knowledge of their business. He gives the example of a company that was given repeated safety warnings from workers before two consecutive explosions resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
