We’ve all had to adjust our expectations in 2020. So it is with the festive schedules. Last year, BBC One gave us the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. This year we get the
King Gary Christmas Special (BBC One), which doesn’t garner quite the same levels of excitement.
That’s not to say King Gary lacks charm. Tom Davis is just loveable enough as Gary the builder, forever trying to impress his neighbours on Essex’s Butterchurn Crescent. Those neighbours include the weary Stuart (Romesh Ranganathan), who in this episode had no desire to get involved in Gary’s plans for a lavish Christmas lights display. Meanwhile, Gary was trying to please his dad, Big Gary (The Fast Show’s Simon Day), by nailing a big deal for the family firm.
