Doris Leeper House added to National Register of Historic Places Abigail Mercer, The Daytona Beach News-Journal © David Tucker/News Journal The Doris Leeper house, Tuesday December 8, 2020 south of Eldora Road in the Canaveral National Seashore, is now on the National Register for historic places. After two years of effort from the Atlantic Center for the Arts and dedicated advocates, the Canaveral National Seashore home of the late Doris Leeper is being added to the National Register of Historic Places. Leeper was a nationally recognized artist and deeply committed environmentalist who also loved her community. She is remembered as one of the reasons the Canaveral National Seashore exists, and she helped found the Atlantic Center for the Arts and the Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve. Her beachfront home is located a half-mile south of Eldora Road. Leeper died in 2000.
