It’s back! Downton Abbey returns to the big screen

Downton Abbey will be back in cinemas with a sequel this Christmas.
The first film starred Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Michelle Dockery and Elizabeth McGovern.
Producers said the new movie will feature the original cast, as well as Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.
Gareth Neame, the film’s producer and executive chairman of Carnival Films, said: “After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be reunited with the much-beloved characters of Downton Abbey.”

“Downton Abbey” fans will have Christmas with the Crawleys once more, as “Downton Abbey 2” is in production and set for Dec. 22 release.
Per Focus Features and Carnival Films, the original principal cast from the first film including Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery who starred together on the “Downton Abbey” TV series, will reprise their roles for the sequel movie, which began production last week.

Original castmembers including Hugh Bonneville, Jim Carter, Laura Carmichael, and Michelle Dockery are returning for the period drama, set to be released just in time for Christmas, along with a handful of newcomers, such as Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West.
Julian Fellowes, the creator of the hugely successful TV series and the 2019 film continuation, will once again write the screenplay, with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge back to produce with Fellowes. Simon Curtis will direct the sequel.

The Downton Abbey cast will return in a second film in the franchise.

The new movie is a sequel to the 2019 film and the ITV series, which aired for six seasons from 2010 to 2015.
Fellowes will write the screenplay and produce with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge, according to Variety. Simon Curtis will direct the sequel.
