Prisma Health administers its 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine in SC

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– Prisma Health announced that it delivered its 100,000th dose of the coronavirus vaccine on Monday. Prisma says they have administered the most Pfizer vaccines in the state, nearly 30% of the 341,250 delivered to the state.
“Last week, South Carolina was recognized as one of the top 10 states in the country for using its available supply of vaccine. This was accomplished by working in close collaboration with our elected officials, health agencies and many other community partners,” said Mark O’Halla, President and Chief Executive Officer of Prisma Health. “I am extremely proud of our entire team in vaccinating as many people as possible as quickly as possible.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On Wednesday, Prisma Health announced the creation of regional COVID-19 recovery units.
One of these units is based at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter. The other is at Prisma Health Laurens County. They will be available for all hospitals across the state to transfer patients to help relieve internal capacity challenges.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Mississippi is still looking for ways to ramp up the COVID-19 vaccine distribution. But they have to work with the supply the federal government is sending, and itâs not enough to cover everyone eligible.
Mississippiâs vaccine distribution situation is the definition of demand exceeding supply.
âAbout 1.3 to 1.4 million people,â said State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs. âThatâs a lot of people that now qualify. But if you look at how much vaccine that were allocated⦠right now we get a steady stream of about 37,000 first doses coming into the state every week.â

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Governor Tate Reeves expressed concerns this week about wanting better data on how quickly hospitals were utilizing their vaccines.
“Before anymore allocation goes out, I’m going to have that data because we cannot keep sending doses to places that aren’t putting them in arms,” Reeves said Wednesday.
We’ve now learned that the change in plans left some hospitals around the state being forced to cancel appointments for vaccines they originally were told were on the way.
