UCSB Women Step Up, Beat Hawaii to Snap Slump, Win First Home Game

Doris Jones attacked the basket, and the UCSB women’s basketball team played with more aggressiveness and beat Hawaii, 72-50, to snap a six-game losing streak and earn its first home win of the season on Saturday at the Thunderdome.
Jones scored 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting and grabbed six rebounds to lead the charge in the Big West game.

The Gauchos got out to a 6-3 lead on shots by junior guard Lauren Lee, Mole, and senior point guard Danae Miller, but the Beach picked things up from there. Patricia Chung and Justina King scored six points apiece in the hosts ensuing 16-2 run that lasted until there was just under a minute to go in the first quarter. The final make of the period came from the Gauchos Miller, who converted on a three-pointer after Lee grabbed an offensive rebound, to close the deficit to eight.
Long Beach State kept it up in the second quarter, outscoring the Gauchos 21-12 to extend their advantage to a 40-23 scoreline at the half. Jasmine Hardy went 4-of-4 with nine points for the Beach.

Chama, NM - Arthur Lloyd Steindl, 89, of Chama, New Mexico, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 17th, 2021. Arthur s passing was as he wished it, at home with his wife Beverly, and his beloved cats nearby.
Arthur was the son of Albert and Francis (Kelly) Steindl. Arthur married his wife Beverly Timm in 2002. Arthur farmed for most of his life in Orfordville, WI. Arthur enjoyed being close to the land and loved animals of all kinds. Arthur milked dairy cows for all of his farming career, but also raised pigs and chickens for a period of time. Arthur s farm was home to many cats, dogs, horses and even one sheep. Arthur initially used main stream farming methods but evolved in time to more earth friendly practices, transitioning to organic and strip farming methods to honor and preserve the land. Arthur was a pioneer of sorts, as he started organic farming well before this was a widely accepted and respected practice. The farm was a hard task master. When able
SWEETWATER COUNTY Band and choir members from Rock Springs High School (RSHS) and Green River High School (GRHS) recently received All-State honors.
According to the Wyoming High School Activities Association, the 2021 All-State Band, All-State Choir and All-State Orchestra event took place January 17-19 in Laramie. Students from all over the state participated three-day event.
GRHS and RSHS students participated in the choir and band competitions, but not in orchestra.
