CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville is moving toward a new look for an historic community.
Charlottesville City Planners voted unanimously Tuesday to approve the Starr Hill Vision Plan. The vote doesnât give any money, nor does it start construction - those things would come later. But the sign-off is the first step toward getting it into the cityâs Comprehensive Plan.
âWe will create a neighborhood identity rooted in African-American presence and prosperity with real opportunities for the Black community to foster ownership of property, commerce, and culture,â said Yolunda Harrell of the New Hill Development Corporation.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The anticipated discussion on credit card policies began toward the beginning of Charlottesville City Councilâs meeting Tuesday, February 16.
The dialogue comes after Mayor Nikuyah Walker faced questions about giving community members gift cards she purchased with her city credit card.
âJust because you all do them in the background and I am upfront, and I am going to say it publicly, doesnât make you all better, [Councilor] Heather [Hill], or your actions better,â Walker said.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesvilleâs new city manager, Chip Boyles, officially takes the reins in less than two weeks, but now a community activist is raising concerns about his hiring process and contract.
Tanesha Hudson says Chip Boylesâ new contract outwardly violates a state code. This statute requires anyone appointed to the city manager position to be under an indefinite term unless it is a temporary position for no more than a year.
