Photo by Fred Roe/Getty Images After the debacle of the Heidi game the Jets didn’t lose another game the rest of the year. They won their division for the first time in franchise history, then were set to play in the AFL championship game against the Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders were always the bad guys who liked to cheat or get away with whatever they could. They would revel in the pain of other teams and would try anything to gain an advantage. When Al Davis was coach (by the time of the championship game he was AFL commissioner) he tried one of their sinister machinations.

On Jan. 5, 1998, the morning after the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Denver Broncos at home in a divisional-round playoff game, Marty Schottenheimer met with a group of reporters to wrap up the season, as he always did. There wasn’t a lot of positivity to come out of Super LV for the Kansas City Chiefs. It was a ugly game and there’s no need to rehash any of that. However, shortly after the game ended, the Chiefs were already slotted as the betting favorites to get back to the Super Bowl and win it in 2022.

CLEVELAND, Ohio Former Browns receivers coach Al Saunders worked for Marty Schottenheimer longer than any of his other coaches, serving as assistant head coach and receivers coach in Kansas City from 1989-98. He also lived eight houses away from Schottenheimer there, and their wives became as close as they were.
“Maybe somebody knew him better than I did, but I don’t know if anybody loved him more,’ Saunders told cleveland.com, getting choked up.
