Empanada Gourmet to open downtown Lancaster cafe in February

A cafÃ© featuring empanadas is slated to open in downtown Lancaster by the end of February. Empanada Gourmet is taking a spot at 46 N. Prince St., the former home of Dough & Co., which closed in December. Empanada Gourmet is owned by Nury Vargas and Ivanna Arambillete, a mother and daughter who launched their business two years ago by opening a stand at Lancaster Marketplace along Fruitville Pike in Manheim Township. They also have a stand at Lancaster Central Market. Empanada Gourmet features a variety of Uruguayan-style savory and sweet empanadas, including vegan, vegetarian and dessert options. Empanada Gourmet Expected opening: Late February.

Willow Valley proposes 20-story, $90M high-rise in downtown Lancaster; would be taller than Griest Building

Willow Valley Communities on Monday announced plans to develop a 20-story apartment building in downtown Lancaster, across the street from Southern Market Center. The 244-foot-high building would be the tallest in Lancaster County, surpassing the 19-floor Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square a block away by 34 feet. Named Willow Valley Mosaic, with an estimated cost exceeding $90 million, the upscale development would consist of 147 apartments as well as a host of resort-quality amenities for its residents, who would be ages 55 and up.
