English as a Second Language classes to start online Jan 12

January 5, 2021 The Lutheran Church of Our Savior announced online registration is open for free virtual 
English as a Second Language classes with sessions beginning  Tuesday, Jan. 12, and ending Thursday, March 18. Classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.   There is no charge for the virtual classes, which are being held via Zoom.

 In operation since 2004, the ESL Program at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior is the largest of its kind in Sussex County. Free classes for adults at proficiency levels from beginner to advanced are offered, focusing on social interaction, vocabulary and conversation, grammar, writing and reading comprehension.

Delaware State University Gets $1M to Support Wesley College Acquisition

December 30, 2020 Delaware State University (DSU), which earlier this year acquired Wesley College, a private liberal arts college, received $1 million from the Delaware-based non-profit Longwood Foundation to help ease the transition. With the acquisition, DSU hopes to create one of five anticipated colleges directly on the Wesley campus, starting with the Wesley College of Health and Behavioral Sciences. The aid will also go into recruiting new employees and faculty members. Referring to the longstanding association with Longwood Foundation, DSU director of media relations The Philadelphia Tribune, “This marks a particular move forward in our relationship with Longwood because they’re partnering with us in what will be a long-term change in the entire higher educational setup in Delaware.”

Delaware Business Now DSU gets a $1 million grant from Longwood The Longwood Foundationawarded $1 million to Delaware State University to support the university’s acquisition of Wesley College. The award will support ongoing transition costs, including personnel and a comprehensive plan for aligning the two institutions’ academic programs. The university announced plans last summer to acquire Wesley College and is currently moving toward completing the transaction by July 2021.
