A sort centre will open in Langley City later in 2021, creating over 500 jobs.
Three delivery stations in Langley Township, Pitt Meadows, and Delta will each generate hundreds of jobs. The Langley Township facility opened in February, and the remaining locations will open later this year.
“We’re thrilled to expand our network in British Columbia to better serve our customers while offering our employees bright, safe careers with on-the-job training and upskilling,” said Sumegha Kumar, Director of Canadian Customer Fulfillment Operations at Amazon Canada, in a statement.
“Our new facilities will help us meet our customers’ growing demand for great products and faster delivery times while also expanding the service and support we can provide to the thousands of local small businesses selling their products on Amazon.”

Addressing a Liberal bill aimed at criminalizing conversion therapy, the MP for the B.C. riding of Cloverdale Langley City said, “I’m going to invoke the words of the Apostle Matthew: ‘Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees. You hypocrites! You’re like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.’ ”

Newly revised population forecasts project Metro Vancouver will grow to about 3.8 million people by 2050.
This is an increase from 2.8 million people in 2021, which is up from 2.38 million in 2011 and 2.59 million in 2016.
Metro Vancouver Regional District’s new modelling shows the growth trend will continue, which means an average annual growth of about 35,000 people. It also accounts for short-term shocks and uncertainties such as COVID-19, as well as natural increases from births and deaths, immigration, inter-provincial migration, and intra-provincial migration.

Watford Observer following more than 30 years apart has died. Tony Ashby, who was originally from Bushey, had almost 19 years with his daughter Karen Perrin after she wrote a letter to this newspaper hoping to trace her father. They re-established contact in 2002 and in July 2004 Tony moved to Canada to be near his new-found family after selling his flat, enabling them to be together permanently after being separated for so many years. Born in Bushey in November 1944, Antony Michael Ashby, was the son of Frederick and Ada. He went on to study psychiatric nursing, which gave him a career of more than 30 years.
