Marie Vlatkovich Markowski

Mrs. Markowski Markowski, Marie Vlatkovich, 97, entered heaven on May 2, 2021, after suffering from a fractured tibia in March. She is survived by three sons: Jack (Patricia), Bob (Susie), and Tom (Kellye); seven grandchildren: Renee, John, Mike (Karen), Katie (Christo), Anna, Claira (Alex), and Aliy; three great-grandchildren: Austin, Sofia and Harry; her dear sister Emily (101); and many beloved nieces and nephews.  Marie graduated from Webster College and worked as a dietician in St. Louis, where she met and married John Markowski. They had three sons, whom she raised in Affton after John’s untimely death in 1957. As a single parent, she worked as a remedial English teacher, attending night and weekend classes to receive a SLU masters degree in English. She taught 23 years at Southwest and Soldan High Schools. Her family marveled at her ability to correct their English mistakes!

A school bus crashed and burst into flames in Airmont on Thursday. Police say it happened yesterday during the afternoon drop-off on Saddle River Road. It s not clear if any students were onboard or if anyone was hurt. A woman fell out a three-story window on Lockwood Avenue in Yonkers. Police believe it was accidental. The woman was rushed to the hospital, but there is no report yet on the extent of her injuries.              

High-Speed Pursuit In Fairfield County Ends With Driver s Arrest, Police Say

Read / Add Comments A Long Island man was arrested in Fairfield County after taking engaging the police in a high-speed pursuit. Nassau County resident Jax Bateau, age 22, of Elmont, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 18, after Greenwich Police officers spotted a car speeding on Sound Beach Avenue around 2:40 a.m., said Captain Mark E. Zuccerella.  The vehicle then pulled into the Sunoco gas station on Arcadia Road but quickly left after seeing the police officers and fled south on Park Avenue at a high rate of speed, and ran a red light at the intersection of Park Avenue and Lockwood Avenue, Zuccerella said.
