Nicavera photo) + April 19, 2021 THE “bayanihan” spirit among Bacolodnons and Negrenses was once again proven to be alive amid the prevailing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. How? This is through the community pantries put up by various individuals and groups whose ultimate goal is to stimulate compassion and spur help for others during these trying times. In their desire to lessen the burden currently experienced especially by residents who are in dire need of food and other basic goods, 25-year-old Kim Lizares along with some of her friends spent their free time opening a community pantry along 12th Lacson Street in Bacolod City Monday, April 19, 2021.

Mate Espina to serve as Rotary governor in 2023 - 2024

February 08, 2021 THERE goes the sun gleaming toward a seasoned media practitioner from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, as she will be governing the Rotary International District 3850 come Rotary Year 2023-2024. Maria Ester Mate Espina, who comes from a family of journalists and artists and currently serving as the district chair for public image and RI appointed Assistant Regional Public Image Coordinator for RY 2021-2022, was chosen as District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND) for 2023-2024 by the District Nominating Committee last February 6, 2021, Saturday, at the UCC Cafe in Lacson Street, Bacolod City. This means that she will be serving as Rotary governor for District 3850 for RY 2023-2024.

SunStar + January 10, 2021 A SECOND wave of flash floods hit the Third District and other northern Negros areas Friday night, January 8, 2021, up to early Saturday morning, January 9, that resulted in two casualties. Marvito Yap Lumanog, 43, was found dead, Saturday after his flood-hit house made of light materials fell on him in Hacienda San Herman, Barangay Guimbalaon, Silay City. A cadaver of a male victim was also found in a creek Sunday in Purok Santan, Barangay Zone 11, Talisay City. The victim, who was not yet identified as of Sunday evening, was believed to have drowned due to the strong current of the water.
