Lagos estate residents accuse AMCON of encroachment, disregard for court orders
A representative for the residents said AMCON is reselling the disputed properties in a clandestine manner and encouraging the buyers to start construction on the lands.
Residents and property owners in Victory Park Estate, Lagos, have alleged that the
Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) is encroaching on their lands in disregard of court orders.
The lawsuit which was scheduled to be heard on April 14 in the Lagos High Court was stalled by the judicial workers union industrial action embarked upon on April 6.
The property owners, under the aegis of Association of Victory Park Estate Bare Land Owners in Ikoyi area of Lagos, raised an alarm that AMCON’s action violates the doctrine of “Lis pendes,” a Latin term for a pending suit.

In affirmation of an earlier ruling in August 2020, the Supreme Court held that the age-long tradition which denied females any inheritance from their fathers was discriminatory and contravenes Section 42(1)(a) and (2) of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999.
The matter was commenced by Gladys Ada Ukeje, the daughter of late Lazarus Ogbonna Ukeje in 2004 over her family’s decision to deny her inheritance in her father’s estate based on the Igbo native law and custom.
After she won at the high court, the widow of her father, Mrs Lois Ukeje, and her son, Enyinnaya Ukeje, appealed the ruling at the Court of Appeal – wherein the earlier decision was upheld. Thereupon, the family further appealed to the Supreme Court.

Residents of Imoore and Kirikiri Communities at the Oriade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, have hailed moves by the Alahun of Imoore and Apapa, Oba Taofeeq Adegboyega, to restore sanity in the Kirikiri Community by asking the Lagos State High Court, to address the confusion caused by the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, insisting that Cheif Babalola Shabi, remains the Baale of Kirikiri Town.
