The Lagos House of Assembly has called on the governor of the state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to commence very tough enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols among residents of the state.
The House said its decision follows the outright disregard for the protocols against the pandemic by some residents and visitors to the state.
The Members of the House also asked the Governor to call on the state’s commissioner for information, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, to embark on enlightenment campaigns and education of the people concerning the dangerous effects of the pandemic on the society.

The Lagos State House of Assembly Muslim Community has lifted the suspension on Jumu’a Service in the complex.
The spokesperson for the community’s League of Imams, Mr Adegbite Muktar, made this known in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday.
The statement said the lifting of the suspension became necessary after the completion of the sanitation exercise in the mosque.
It said that all Muslim brothers and sisters who would be coming for Jumu’a prayers should henceforth adhere strictly to the government guidelines on safety protocols.

As part of efforts to mark the 16 Days of Activism of Eradication of Domestic and Sexual Violence, the Lagos State House of Assembly concluded plans to give legal backing to any agency that ensure speedy justice on Gender Based Violence, GBV.
This was part of “A Bill for a Law to provide for the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, the establishment of the sex offenders register and for other connected purposes.”
To give credence to the Bill, wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu who was represented by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation WAPA, Mrs Cecilia Dada assured residents of the readiness of Government to ensure justice is served appropriately.
Bayelsa stakeholders lament increase in gender-based violence

Stakeholders involved in gender-based advocacy have decried the rising cases of violence against women and rape of the girl child in Bayelsa State, saying 50 cases were recorded in the year 2020.
According to the advocacy groups led by the Do Foundation International, out of the 50 cases recorded, two convictions were secured while others are still pending in the law courts.
Barrister Dise Sheila Ogbise, while speaking during the inauguration of the new executives of the Do Foundation Intentional, Bayelsa chapter, led by Barrister Comfort Itoru, said “it is disheartening that abandonment of complaint by victims is a major set back in its fight against gender based violence as parties settle and abandon their cases.”

There is panic and anxiety in Minna, Niger state capital as the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Barrister Bawa Wuse, the Clerk, Alhaji Mohammed Kagara and some members of the House tested positive for Coronavirus.
Two weeks ago, a female member of the House, was said to have tested positive to the virus which necessitated other members including the Speaker to embark on the routine check.
The check saw most of the members negative except the Speaker and Clerk of the House. Both of them have since gone into isolation.
