Cajundome Set to Host Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday Household Hazardous Waste Day is back! After the coronavirus pandemic forced the event to be canceled in 2020, the popular event put on by Lafayette Consolidated Government is happening once again and this year it will be in the CAJUNDOME. If you re a resident in the City of Lafayette or the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish, you are encouraged to bring your unwanted household chemicals to be recycled or properly disposed. The lists of acceptable and unacceptable items below can be found at www.lafayettela.gov. Residents may also call the Environmental Quality Division at (337) 291-5637.

Lafayette Habitat for Humanity opens 2021 Homeownership Program Applications KATC and last updated 2021-03-01 10:34:02-05 Applications are now open for Lafayette Habitat for Humanity s Affordable Homeownership Program. Starting March 1, applications will be available on Lafayette Habitat’s website, habitatlafayette.org, and at its program office, 823 W. Congress Street. Habitat says that eligible applicants must have current housing need, be able to make an affordable monthly mortgage payment, and be willing to partner with Habitat to accomplish sweat-equity hours and other requirements, like completing financial education and homeownership classes. Interested applicants can find more information on the process online or by calling the Habitat office at (337) 261-5041.

Household Hazardous Waste Day Held March 6 at Cajundome

Household Hazardous Waste Day Held March 6 at Cajundome Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) will be holding the next Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, March 6 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Cajundome. Residents in the City of Lafayette and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish will be able to get rid of unwanted household chemicals to be recycled or properly destroyed. Some of the items typically brought in include paint, paint products, poison, chemical cleaners, gasoline, fluorescent tubes, alkaline batteries, and mercury. However, LCG is unable to accept electronics at this event. LCG says that any latex paint that is dropped off will be re-blended and packaged for Lafayette Habitat for Humanity to use. The paint re-blending not only provides a needed product benefiting a great cause but it also significantly reduces waste and saves on disposal costs.
