The Lafayette Economic Development Authority says that total taxable sales for 2020 broke the all-time record set in 2014.
More than $667 million in sales in December 2020 helped taxable sales reach $6.43 billion for the year. That number broke the all-time record set in 2014 by $13.5 million.
Sales ended the year up 1.33% from 2019 and up 6.22% from 2018, according to LEDA. December 2020 sales were the second highest single month on record following December 2014.
âHoliday shopping exceeded LEDAâs forecast of $1.1 billion which gave us the boost we needed to break the sales record set in 2014,â says Gregg Gothreaux, President and CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority in a press release.
