Here are the guidelines View Comments The last school year was an unprecedented one filled with social distancing, face masks and quarantines, and this year might not look too different, according to guidance from the state and CDC. The state Department of Education released guidance July 8, about one month before many districts start the fall semester, but official decisions about what this year will look like are up to local school districts.  District officials and school board members are working on those decisions now to be presented and finalized in August meetings. Acadiana education leaders are hoping to see students back to daily face-to-face instruction no hybrid schedules  but the mask issue is still being considered.

Here are the responses received so far: Acadia Parish Acadia has been a district-wide free lunch system and will continue as a district-wide free lunch school system for the 2021/2022 school year. Calcasieu Parish The Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) announced that all students will be eligible to eat breakfast and lunch at school next year free of charge. This development comes after the United States Department of Agriculture deemed all CPSB schools qualified for the Community Eligibility Provision due to the recent events faced by our community.

Lafayette Parish students can receive free meals for 2021-2022 school year

View Comments The Lafayette Parish School System will provide free school meals for all students through the 2021-2022 school year, which begins Aug. 12. Regardless of income eligibility, access to free breakfast and lunch will be available at all LPSS school sites, district officials announced Wednesday.  This is possible through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which has implemented certain waivers of federal regulations that will allow Child Nutrition Programs to operate under guidelines that will provide free meals to all students, according to a release. Other free meal options continuing this year include snacks for after-school care and tutoring programs, weekend meal distribution at four LPSS school sites, and participation in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program at three school sites.
