Woman charged after baby tests positive for drugs

OXFORD - A Lafayette County woman is behind bars after an infant s blood tested positive for drugs. Oxford police spokesman Breck Jones said the department was notified March 8 by Child Protective Services about an investigation into Lashetta Nicole Hickinbottom. A newborn that was in her care tested positive for amphetamines. As a result of the investigation, police obtained a warrant. Hickinbottom, 35, of Oxford, was arrested without incident April 5 and charged with child neglect. She was carried to the Lafayette County Detention Center, where she is being held on a $20,000 bond set during her initial appearance in Lafayette County Justice Court.

Man charged in Oxford Walmart bomb threat

OXFORD - A Lafayette County man has been formally charged with making a false bomb threat at a crowded Oxford business Sunday afternoon. According to the Oxford Police Department, the management of the Walmart called Lafayette County 911 around 4 p.m. Jan. 31 saying there was a person in the store telling customers that he planted a bomb inside the store, and that they needed to leave before it went off. When police arrived moments later, store officials pointed out the suspect who was trying to leave. That person was detained without further incident. Police quickly evacuated the store and set up a perimeter, until additional resources could arrive. Three bomb dogs from other agencies were called to the scene to assist OPD in searching the store.

Oxford woman charged with vandalism

OXFORD •  A Lafayette County woman has been charged with a felony for vandalizing someone s parked car. Oxford police responded to an apartment complex in the 100 block of Old Taylor Road on Friday, Jan. 22. The victim reported someone has damaged their vehicle. Investigators were called to the scene and determined that Amari Dyasia Burt, 24, of Oxford, was responsible for the damage. She was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Lafayette County Jail on the charge of felony malicious mischief. During her initial appearance in Lafayette County Justice Court, bond was set at $2,500. She is currently out of jail on bond.
