Weekly Fishing Report: July 4, 2021
Los Alamos Daily Post
The recent period of cool temperatures and rainy weather has been beneficial for anglers, keeping the streamflows in New Mexico higher and keeping water temperatures cooler.
Campers benefitted as well. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions were lifted on Santa Fe National Forest and Carson National Forest land, allowing campers to enjoy campfires again.
Fire restrictions could be put back into place if the weather turns hot and dry. For now, enjoy the comfort of a campfire. Fire restrictions at New Mexico State Parks vary from park-to-park.
Reservations at New Mexico State Parks may be made by calling 877-667-7787 for reservations. Some remote campsites may be open on a first come, first served basis. It is beneficial to check the state parks website for conditions at individual state parks if you are planning a trip to one of them. The website is: www.emnrd.state.nm.us/SPD/FindaPark.html.
Car-to-car shooting on 60 Freeway leaves father dead and two teenage sons injured Ruben Vives
A man was killed and his two sons injured Saturday afternoon following a car-to-car shooting on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights, authorities said.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 12:28 p.m. to a report of an accident on the 60 Freeway, east of Crossroads Parkway. When officers arrived they found a white Chevrolet Avalanche with extensive collision damage.
Inside the Avalanche they found three passengers: an adult male and two males ages 13 and 16. It was then that officers learned that the driver, 35-year-old Luis Mendoza, of La Puente, had been shot, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A San Gabriel Valley man pleaded guilty today to federal criminal charges for participating in a multimillion-dollar scheme to manufacture and ship counterfeit laptop computer batteries and other electronics from China to the United States, where the bogus batteries were sold to unsuspecting buyers in online marketplaces.
As a result of an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Los Angeles with assistance from the brand-holding companies, Zoulin Cai, a.k.a. “Allen Cai,” 29, of La Puente, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.
According to his plea agreement, Cai conspired to import batteries, labels for batteries in laptop computers, cellphones, and other electronics from China to the United States. Cai then sold and shipped the counterfeit batteries to unsuspecting individual buyers via eBay and Amazon, falsely advertising them as brand-name new, genuine, original, or OEM
