The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Monday confirmed 88 new deaths and 9,927 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, as Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia reported 7 new fatalities since Friday.
One patient died Friday, two died Saturday, and four more died Sunday, hospital spokesman Patrick Moody said Monday afternoon.
The Santa Clarita Valley has reached 21,956 total COVID-19 cases 767 more than Friday and 165 deaths since the pandemic began.
The number of new cases and deaths reported Monday reflects a reporting lag from over the weekend and holiday, Public Health officials said in their Monday update.
To date, Public Health identified 1,024,190 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 13,936 deaths.

The eight deaths on Saturday and Sunday were the most reported by the hospital in a two-day period since the pandemic began, and bring Henry Mayo’s COVID fatalities total to 92, according to spokesman Patrick Moody.
So far, the Santa Clarita Valley has tallied 20,121 COVID-19 cases – 916 new infections since Friday – and 147 deaths.
Since this surge began in early November, daily deaths increased in L.A. County by more than 1,000%. Deaths increased from 12 a day at that time to more than 200 last week, Public Health officials noted in their Monday daily brief.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials on Friday confirmed 18,313 new cases and 318 new deaths of COVID-19 countywide, surpassing the previous all-time high of one-day total COVID-19 deaths in the County. In addition, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia reported its 83rd death since the pandemic began.
To date, Public Health identified 889,405 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 11,863 deaths.
To date, the Santa Clarita Valley has tallied 19,205 COVID-19 cases – 337 more cases since Thursday – and 136 deaths.
Public Health reported over 200 daily deaths this week. For comparison, the County on average has approximately 170 deaths each day from all other causes combined, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, car crashes, suicides, and homicides.
