ANGAMA MARA, GREAT RIFT VALLEY, KENYA: This unique location is 985ft above the Maasai Mara s plains and it s hard to imagine how heady the views here are until you flop into one of the Fermob metal armchairs , says Condé Nast Traveller. It adds: The property is split into two camps of 15 glass-fronted tents, balanced on the rim of the valley. This place will leave you speechless, just like the views. Stays start from £925 per person per night. Visit angama.com
EL FENN, MARRAKECH: Co-owned by Vanessa Branson, sister of Richard, this hotel is an enfilade of acid-bright spaces that launched with six bedrooms in 2004 on the edge of the Medina . Condé Nast Traveller adds: Now it sprawls across 12 riads in its latest expanded incarnation, set to open in January 2021, revealing a spectacular new rooftop pool. Pictured is one of the 31 head-turning rooms . Stays start from £225 per night. See el-fenn.com
Looking through Best of 2020 lists over the past month or so and it becomes clear that ambient music, and what you might call ‘deep cuts’, have proved especially popular this year, their reviews normally containing comments like “I so needed this album this year”. Clearly, we have all been searching for ways to keep on an even keel, and I’ve certainly not been any different. Although with a slight twist.
This list contains five records that I think deserve greater attention, that reflect my listening to ambient and minimal electronic music during this tumultuous year, but also in records by El Gil and Boris Vian that offered me some catharsis in dealing with my emotions. Hopefully you can find something new in these choices that will allow for some kind of release until this year of doom is over.

After more than 20 years working for others in the cigar industry, Hostos Fernandez Quesada has gone out on his own. The 36-year-old opened his own small factory in the Dominican Republic last week where he produces handmade, premium cigars.
“I just thought it was time to take a swing,” Quesada said on a Zoom interview with
Cigar Aficionado. “I don’t want to turn 60 without having done this. It’s now or never.”
Quesada had previously been with cigar label printing company Cigar Rings, which he joined in 2018, but his true cigar production and tobacco experience came from the two decades he spent at Quesada Cigars working for his uncle, Manuel “Manolo” Quesada.
