UPMC donates to Food Bank in recognition of providers | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 19, 2020 In recognition of Advanced Practice Providers (APP) Week earlier this month, UPMC in the Susquehanna Region made a $5,000 contribution to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s Health Innovations Program on behalf of its advance practice provider staff. The Health Innovations Program connects the food bank’s emergency feeding network and consumers served by these programs with members of the medical community to promote health, wellness, and nutrition education. “A person’s health is influenced by many factors, including housing, education, employment, and access to healthy food. These factors, sometimes referred to as the social determinants or social influencers of health, are defined by the conditions and environment in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age,” said David Lopatofsky, MD, chief medical officer, UPMC in the Susquehanna Region.

The nationwide death toll is spiraling upward. More than 300,000 since it began early this year. The one-day death toll recently topped 3,000 more than occurred on D-Day or Sept. 11, 2001. We’ve watched the obituary columns increase dramatically in this newspaper this month. While on most days, the obituaries fit on one page, recent weeks have seen at least two pages of obituaries on most days and more on some days.
