Museums are more than mere houses for pieces of fine art and artifacts. They function as complex gateways to culture, history, philosophy and social structures. The modern museum is a byproduct of 18th- and 19th-century elitism and colonialism, when traditional pillars of Western civilization (Classical Greece, Ancient Rome, Italian Renaissance, etc.) were of utmost importance. From its inception, the modern museum in the United States has primarily maintained a Eurocentric focus, historically grounded in exclusionary practices based on social, cultural and racial structures.

To paraphrase that great philosopher of the Nineties and early 2000s, Britney Spears, “Oops, they did it again.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the Democrat Party added yet another “diversity” hire in Washington, D.C., along the lines of Joe Biden choosing current California Sen. Kamala Harris as his vice presidential running mate, after he pandered by announcing during the primaries he would only pick from binders full of women (so to speak). Of course, that left a Senate seat vacant for CA.
My colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell wrote about Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom elevating Alex Padilla to the office, while giving readers some truly disheartening details on why what Padilla’s done as the Golden State’s secretary of state should stay in California and not be expanded in a federal role like senator.
Who Will Replace Kamala Harris? Itâs About More Than a Senate Seat
The question of who should be chosen as Californiaâs next senator is a battle between Black and Latino representation.

LOS ANGELES â The jockeying began in the summer, right alongside the celebrations. Leading California Democrats were thrilled that Kamala Harris was named as the Democratic nominee for vice president and eager to help her and Joseph R. Biden get to the White House. That was not a question the sprawling and divided state political establishment disagreed on. But what to do about that empty Senate seat? That was far trickier.
