Many years ago now I did A-level sociology and discovered that the greatest recipients of taxpayers’ money were the middle classes.
This doesn’t happen by accident: it’s the result of policies brought in by self-serving local and national government.
This proposed change to housing application policy is shameful.
All councillors representing local residents should vote against it and stop Havering becoming a borough that works against those most genuinely in need.
Time to see sense on house-building

A NURSING home in Highcliffe helped celebrate the 101st birthday of one of their residents by making a unique cake for a special occasion. Kathleen Hannam celebrated her 101st birthday at Highcliffe Nursing Home on Friday January 15 with a cake lovingly made by kitchen assistant Scott Smith and decorated by wellbeing coordinator Maddie Banica. Staff at the Kingsley Healthcare run home in Stuart Road also sang Happy Birthday as she opened her cards and presents. Lifestyle coach Maddie Banica said: “Kathleen was the fittest lady when she came to the home at the age of 99. “She very soon celebrated her 100th Birthday, with a party and all her wonderful friends came to the home.

A seven-year-old boy died after touching a defective lighting fixture in a pub garden, a court has heard.
Harvey Tyrrell, from Harold Wood, was electrocuted as he climbed a garden wall of the King Harold Pub in Romford, east London, on 11 September 2018.
He was pronounced dead in hospital about an hour later.
Colin Naylor, 73, who installed the light fitting, denies a charge of manslaughter by gross negligence at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Mr Naylor, an experienced electrician, also denies a second charge of failing to discharge a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
