PakPassion.net: There’s every chance that you could end your career having never played a Test match in Pakistan. How do you feel about that?   Mohammad Amir: It hurts that I’ve never played a Test match in my home country, but there are a few reasons behind this. When I started playing international cricket there were no matches being played in Pakistan and then of course I took retirement from Test cricket. But, despite that, I am proud that I have represented Pakistan in Test cricket not once or twice, but thirty-six times. If luck had favoured me such that whilst I was playing international cricket, Pakistan had played home series then that would have been a great honour and very special for me. But the most important thing for me is that I have represented my country in Test cricket albeit away from Pakistan.

Gin distillery proud of its heritage opens in town centre

Darlington-based The Little Quaker Distillery opened on Saturday in Clark’s Yard. Paul Colman, who owns the distillery with his wife Leanne, said: “It’s been a bit manic. The footfall is fantastic and everyone is really enthusiastic. I’m really happy with how it’s gone. “We planned this a year ago. It was always part of the natural progression to have premises in the town centre and be able to hold tasting events. Because of lockdown we weren’t able to do it, but since Christmas it’s been full steam ahead.” The business has been running since October 2018 and was previously based in an old wash house in Haughton. They have installed a new still, imported from the US, and are making their products above the shop. They plan to offer tours to show people how their gins are made and tasting sessions when restrictions allow.

Geraldine gin distellery awarded silver medals in international competition

The effort was worth it after being advised they had been awarded silver medals. “They were both high up in the silver range as well,” Andrew said. “Closer to gold than silver.” The judges commented the dry gin was tasty on the palate, while the citrus gin also received high praise. “It really opens up on the palate when diluted slightly and the flavour develops nicely into warming spices,” the judges said. Andrew said they considered the medals as validation. “It’s hard to get honest feedback from Kiwis because they won’t say much; to get professional judges in the UK saying this, gives us extra confidence.”
