The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended indefinitely a day after multiple people within the bio-secure bubble tested positive for coronavirus, the league s chairman Brijesh Patel confirms.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the decision tonight to indefinitely suspend the league after a host of players tested positive to the virus.
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the decision, and in a statement, stressed the safety of all stakeholders involved with the competition The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL, the league s official statement read.

“The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect,” BCCI said in a statement.
“The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind,” the statement read.
