Image Source: IANS News Colombo, June 5 : Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed former player Hashan Tillakaratne as new head coach of its women s cricket team. The former batsman s appointment is part of a restructuring of coaches at the Sri Lanka Cricket s High Performance Centre , according to a SLC statement on Saturday. Tillakaratne, a member of the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 World Cup, had previously held several coaching positions under Sri Lanka Cricket Training Division. He was also the head coach of Under-19 Youth team and the batting coach of Sri Lanka Emerging team.

Azam Khan was named by Pakistani selectors in the T20I squad for the tour to England and West Indies on Friday morning.

They will hold these positions for two years. Silva s faction, which includes secretary vice-presidents Ravin Wickramaratne and Jayantha Dharmadasa, and secretary Mohan de Silva, did not face any challenges in this election, after an opposing faction withdrew from the election on Tuesday. That faction had been comprised of Sri Lanka s first Test captain Bandula Warnapura, Nishantha Ranatunga, and K Mathivanan, and had cited the lack of a level playing field in the elections process in the letter indicating their withdrawal. Both Ranatunga and Mathivanan, however, had held elected positions within SLC over the last 10 years.

We have found a suitable window to hold this year s edition, whilst we are currently working on finalising the other details of the tournament, said Arjuna de Silva, chairman, management committee, SLC. The first edition of the LPL, which is Sri Lanka s top domestic T20 league with an international flavour, was held at the MRICS, Hambantota, with five teams competing.
