Malik stars as Jaffna Stallions become LPL champions

HAMBANTOTA: Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik excelled with both bat and ball to help Jaffna Stallions become the first champions of Lanka Premier League (LPL) as they defeated Galle Gladiators by 53 runs in the final here on Wednesday.
Batting first, the Stallions posted 188-6, thanks to an even batting effort. Their top scorer was Pakistani veteran Malik, who scored 46 off 35 while batting at number four. The other major contributors were Thisara Perera (39 not out) and Dhananjaya de Silva (33).
Galle’s bowling unit, apart from Dhananjaya Lakshan who got 3-36, struggled to contain Stallions batters.

New Delhi: After pacer Mohammad Amir confirmed his retirement, former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar on Thursday revealed that he too wasn’t treated well by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management during the 2011 cricket World Cup.
In a video that has now gone viral on social media, Amir had said that he does not think he can work with the current PCB management and it is best for him to leave.
“To be honest, I don’t think I can play cricket under this management, I am leaving cricket, for now, I am being mentally tortured, I cannot handle it, I have seen it enough from 2010-2015. I have to repeatedly hear that PCB invested a lot in me, I am thankful to Shahid Afridi as he gave me chances when I came back after the ban,” said Amir in a video that has now gone viral on social media.

Scheduled to be held in the second half of 2021, this will be the first-ever T10 event where both men & women teams will be participating
Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) has awarded the marketing and organizing rights for the SCA T10 Cricket to Dubai-based Innovative Production Group (IPG). Five companies had submitted an expression of interest (EOI) after SCA had floated an RFP (request for proposal) for the sale of rights in August this year. The IPG Group has emerged as the highest bidder for the rights. This is the second major cricket league for which the IPG Group has bagged the rights after the successful Lanka Premier League (LPL) in Sri Lanka.

Karachi: The top men and women cricketing stars are set to shine in Singapore next year during country’s inaugural T10 cricket league.
An announcement from Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) has confirmed that the country will host the league in July next year.
“The league is scheduled to be held from July 1 to 15, 2021 at the Singapore Sports Hub - fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub, in Kallang, Singapore,” the statement said.
“This is the first T10 league where both men and women s teams will be participating. The first year will have six teams in the fray and the number will be increased to eight teams from the third year onwards,” it said.

Dec 16, Colombo: Jaffna Stallions clinched the trophy with a 53-run victory over Galle Gladiators in the final of the inaugural Lanka Premier League (LPL) Cricket Tournament held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Sooriyaweva today.
Batting first, Jaffna Stallions scored 188 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Shoaib Malik scored 46 off 35 balls and skipper Thisara Perera scored 36 not out.
In reply, Gladiators were able to score only 135 runs for the loss of 9 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa taking to twitter congratulated the Jaffna Stallions on their win at the LPL and also congratulated all individuals and organizations that contributed to ensure the inaugural tournament was a success amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
