Odisha: Union Govt Sanctions Rs 50 Crore For ROPAX Jetty On Dhamra River, To Reduce Travel Time From Six To One Hour

Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has accorded administrative approval for sanction of Rs 50 crore for developing an all-weather ROPAX (Roll-on/Roll-off Passenger) Jetty and allied infrastructure connecting Kaninali in Bhadrak district and Talachua in Kendrapara district of Odisha under the Sagarmala initiative.
The Government of Odisha will fund another 50 per cent cost of the project. The total capital cost of the project is Rs 110 crore which includes construction of RO-PAX Jetty at Kaninali and Talachua, utility infrastructures such as parking area development, navigational aids and dredging.
In what may come as good news for Mumbaikars, the Maharashtra government will soon start ferry services between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai for the general public for ease of commute and to control the crowd in local trains.
PM to launch Mahabahu-Brahmaputra ; inaugurate Ro-Pax operations
Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will launch Mahabahu-Brahmaputra , lay the foundation stone of the Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge and perform the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Majuli bridge in Assam on February 18 via video conferencing.
The launch of Mahabahu-Brahmaputra will be marked by the inauguration of Ro-Pax (roll-on/roll-off passenger service) vessel operations between Neamati-Majuli island, North Guwahati-South Guwahati and Dhubri-Hatsingimari Shilanyas of the inland water transport terminal at Jogighopa, and various tourist jetties on the Brahmaputra, the Prime Minister s Office (PMO) said.
Besides these, digital solutions for ease-of-doing-business will be also launched, it said.

The programme also includes
shilanyas (foundation stone-laying)
for construction of tourist jetties at four locations, namely, Neamati, Biswanath Ghat, Pandu and Jogighopa with the financial assistance of Rs. 9.41 crores from the Ministry of Tourism. These jetties will promote river cruise tourism, generate local employment and also generate growth
Indian Register of Shipping wins 2 classification contracts in Bangladesh
Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), an international ship classification society, wins two classification contracts with Bangladesh’s leading companies, Toggi Shipping & Logistics Ltd (a SBU of Bashundhara Group) and Three Angle Marine Limited.
These new contracts add to the wins IRClass has accumulated since it received the Recognised Organisation (RO) status from Bangladesh Department of Shipping in 2017.
The first contract with Toggi Shipping & Logistics Ltd (“Toggi Shipping”) covers 12 self-discharging General Cargo Ships with an option to contract for additional 12 vessels subsequently. Toggi Shipping is a business unit of the Bashundhara Group, which is one of the largest industrial conglomerates of Bangladesh.
