Barn conversion at Peterley Wood Farm in Prestwood approved THE CONVERSION of a barn in favour of a timber-clad home complete with a “secret door” has been approved, despite local opposition. A barn associated with Peterley Wood Farm, on Peterley Lane, in Prestwood, will get a new lease of life as a two-storey, four-bedroom property. The applicant, Ms Rosemary Hall, won conditional permission to convert the existing structure into a single residential property, featuring an “unusual” semi-internal courtyard, first-floor, main bedroom balcony, and glazing “across all sides” of the building. Entrance to the building will be via a “secret door” in the front, leading to the internal courtyard, according to council documents.

Author Ian Rankin s literary archive set to open up to public

READERS will soon be able to explore the literary archive of crime writer Ian Rankin as it becomes available at the National Library of Scotland this week. Rankin donated his archive to the library in Edinburgh in 2019, describing it as “a pretty complete author’s life, late-20th century-style”. The creator of detective John Rebus the detective also made a substantial donation towards the creation of a post to itemise and catalogue each item. Curator Rosemary Hall, who took up the post, surveyed around 50 boxes of material, dating from 1972 to 2018, and the cataloguing process has resulted in 387 files and manuscripts that people can view at the reading rooms.
